Otoplasty, also known as Ear Pinning, is a procedure to correct the appearance of protruding or disfigured ears. The otoplasty procedure can improve the shape, position, or proportion of the ear. Ears that are disproportionately large or protrude out from the side of the head can, especially in kids, make them the target of unnecessary teasing from their peers. This teasing can damage a kid’s self-confidence well into adulthood. Improving the ear shape and position can also improve the overall balance and harmony of the face.

Otoplasty can be performed on healthy children 4 years and older. It is often recommended that the procedure is performed while they are young both to prevent unnecessary years of teasing and because cartilage is more malleable  at that age.
