The skin over the face is analogous to a drape. The shape of the face is determined by the underlying skeletal framework. In some individuals, this framework is not as pronounced as in other individuals and they may appear to have a flattened face or a small, retruded chin.Dr. Pogue is able to add facial implants to the facial skeleton to accentuate the areas of the cheek bone, chin, nose, and angle of the lower jaw. By performing these skeletal augmentations, Dr. Pogue is able to redrape and tighten your facial skin. This provides a more healthy and youthful appearance without the need for a more extensive face-lift surgery. The surgery is performed from within the mouth with no visual scars. Immediate results are evident. Down time is minimal, yet results can be dramatically positive.
Many people have a chin that is too small for their face. When one has a lack of chin projection, the face is weakened. It can also make the nose look larger than it really is. For this reason, many patients seek to improve the appearance of the chin by having chin implant surgery.
It is common for a cosmetic surgeon to recommend chin surgery to a patient having nose surgery in order to achieve facial proportion, as the size of the chin may magnify or minimize the perceived size of the nose. A chin implant helps provide a harmonious balance to your facial features so that you feel better about the way you look.
During surgery a small synthetic chin implant will be inserted over the natural bone. A small incision is made either underneath the chin or inside the mouth. A sterile implant, similar to the consistency of a natural chin, is placed in front of the bone to increase the projection of the chin. The implant is secured and the incision is sutured closed.
The chin is taped after surgery to minimize swelling and discomfort. Sutures in the skin will be removed in five to seven days. If an intra-oral incision is used, the sutures will dissolve.
Having high cheekbones is a classic sign of beauty. However, not everyone is born with this feature. Cheek implants can help improve the contour of your face and can also in older patients, restore a youthful appearance to sagging, midfacial tissue.
The procedure can be performed using either a general or a local anesthetic, depending on the preferences of both the patient and doctor. We make a small incision either inside the mouth, in the crease above the upper lip. An implant that resembles the natural cheekbone is placed over the natural cheekbone and then secured. This way the projection of the cheekbone is increased. The incision will be sutured closed and any stitches will dissolve within 10 days.
